About Us |
TECH CORPS Illinois is a nonprofit organization focused on enhancing K-12 education by building partnerships that empower educators and students to effectively use technology in schools.
TECH CORPS Illinois is the Illinois affiliate of the national TECH CORPS® - a collection of state-based non-profit organizations dedicated to helping K-12 education at the grassroots.
Although organized at a national level, TECH CORPS is implemented locally so that each state chapter determines its own initiatives and each school district uses volunteers in ways best suited to its needs. It is funded entirely through corporate and foundation sponsorships.
TECH CORPS Illinois recruits technologically adept volunteers from the community and matches them with schools in need of technology assistance.
Throughout the school year, TECH CORPS Illinois volunteers advise and assist educators and students with the integration of technology into the learning process. Our backgrounder is available in PDF format

How did TECH CORPS start? |
TECH CORPS is a national non-profit organization focused on building partnerships which enable educators and students to effectively use technology in schools. TECH CORPS was founded in 1995 by Gary J. Beach, Publisher of CIO Magazine. Beach envisioned an organization that would challenge millions of American volunteers to build a technology infrastructure much like the Peace Corps challenges men and women to help build an infrastructure in developing countries. TECH CORPS chapters have been established in 23 states and the District of Columbia.
